摘要

At times, such as is the case with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) gender pay inequality, contrasting theoretical logic and empirical results fail to provide clarity on the nature of a relationship. At the same time, typical approaches that help shed light on contrasting findings – such as random assignment, meta-analyses, and robustness checks – are not always amenable to a research question either. Using the context of CEO gender pay inequality and 13,824 universes with varying research design and analyses decisions in extant research, this presentation aims to illustrate how multiverse analysis can help reconcile variability in empirical results by systematically testing competing rationales against each other and thus, facilitate both knowledge aggregation and theory building.
