ASQ Paper Development Workshop (PDW) Call For Papers

Organizations amid social, political, and technological changes

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) January 15, 2027

Social, political, and technological transformations are challenging long-standing assumptions about how organizations are constituted, coordinated, and governed. These developments call for renewed theoretical attention to how organizations define boundaries, exercise authority, develop expertise, sustain legitimacy, and navigate interorganizational relationships.

This Paper Development Workshop welcomes theoretical and empirical research that examines how organizations and their members navigate, interpret, and respond to these transformations. We encourage interdisciplinary perspectives that advance organization theory across multiple levels of analysis.

We welcome a broad selection of both macro and micro topics, including but not limited to the following:

1. Work, Professions, and the Changing Social Order
How workers and occupational groups renegotiate expertise, status, identity, and jurisdiction as social expectations, market pressures, and technologies reshape the meaning and value of work.

2. Political Contestation in Organizational Life
How polarization, state intervention, geopolitical conflict, corruption, distrust, and rule- of-law uncertainty enter organizational life and reshape sensemaking, authority, identity, wrongdoing, and interorganizational ties.

3. AI, Authority, and the Future of Organizing
How AI redistributes authority, accountability, coordination, learning, and agency as humans and technologies jointly participate in organizational action.
