2. The Goal of the Workshop
This workshop aims to bring together the entire Editors of CMS, including the EiC, Deputy EiC, Reviewing Editor, and Associate Editors, alongside a representative from the Publisher, Emerald. The primary focus is on evaluating the journal’s current status and planning its future development, with the overarching goal of enhancing its quality. Through interactive dialogue, participants will explore pathways for improving editorial processes, expanding the journal’s impact, and addressing emerging challenges in management research, particularly those arising in the digital age.
3. Content of the Workshop
CMS is committed to publishing high-quality research that highlights Chinese approaches to managing enterprises, firms, and corporations. The journal serves as a platform that combines both qualitative and quantitative perspectives, offering deep insights into Chinese managerial thinking, practices, and philosophies. The journal also features empirical research and interviews with prominent Chinese CEOs, top management team (TMT) members, and leading academics, thereby reflecting contemporary thought in the field of Chinese management. CMS fosters research by Chinese scholars across China as well as the work of international researchers, demonstrating both the range of management research capabilities within China and the global interest in Chinese management.
Currently, CMS holds a 2023 Impact Factor of 1.90, a five-year Impact Factor of 2.4, and a Cite Score of 3.9. It is ranked SSCI-Q3 (251/401) in the Management category, reflecting an improvement from its previous Q4 ranking. These metrics highlight the journal’s growing influence and serve as a benchmark for the quality improvements planned for the future.
The upcoming workshop will address several key areas to support the journal’s continued development:
- Editorial Practices and Quality Standards: Participants will review the current editorial standards and processes to identify areas that can be refined to further enhance the quality of published articles. This will include discussions on maintaining rigorous peer review processes and ensuring consistency in editorial decisions.
- Journal Positioning and Impact: Strategies for increasing the journal’s impact will be explored, including approaches to attract high-quality submissions, promote the journal’s visibility, and enhance its influence within the field. The role of the publisher, Emerald, in supporting these strategies will also be a central focus.
- Research on Chinese Management in the Digital Age: The workshop will focus on how the journal can better address emerging topics in Chinese management, particularly in the context of digital transformation. This includes identifying and encouraging research on innovative management practices that are shaping the digital age in China.
- Feedback and Open Discussion: The workshop will feature an open forum where editors and participants can provide feedback, share ideas, and discuss challenges. This collaborative discussion will help identify actionable steps for improving the journal and addressing any issues faced by contributors and reviewers.
